Have you ever walked into a situation where “pandemonium” and “disorganization” and “Who’s running this mess?” crosses your mind?  (I hope it wasn’t a Toastmasters meeting.)  You know there’s a leadership problem when you find yourself in this place.  People aren’t doing the work, or it’s unclear what they’re supposed to do.  Fortunately, in Toastmasters, we have some leadership roles that should prevent that chaos.  Today on Toastmasters 101 podcast, we’re talking about how Toastmasters clubs work.

Leadership in Adversity in Toastmasters

What does leadership in adversity look like?  What do leaders in adverse situations do?

This week was the most important religious holiday of my year. What’s normally a day of celebration and feasting with my extended church family was instead kept at home, in front of a screen.

No candles, no shouts, no procession.

But the following morning, we opted to create a physical event that met all of the existing regulations. We met outside. We socially distanced ourselves. Many of us wore masks and gloves.

For an hour, we were together.

Was it enough?

When we talk about 2020 and Toastmasters in the future, what are we going to say? Was it enough?

Recruiting New Members in the DCP

Toastmasters clubs have a metric to determine how well they’re serving their members. The Distinguished Club program has a list of goals that a club should be aiming for. Most of those goals are education awards earned by the members. some of the goals are administrative – reporting the new officers, getting them trained, and paying dues on time in both September and March.
